And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us. And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so. And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives. And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold. And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way. But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him. And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin. Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon. And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
